April 2010,

Just wanted to make a quick bump here & let everyone know that I released a small demo for my next game. You can find the demo on my blog:

That's all really. Hope ya like it. And no worries, when the final game is done, I will be posting it here too. :)

Not too much to report, but thought I'd bump & just wish everyone a Happy Holiday / New Year. I have been piddling with my game a bit, but nothing super-amazing.

I've been asked a couple of times to keep a blog. So, I played with that a bit this afternoon. I'll link the other 2 below. Honestly, none of the 3 (counting this as an option) are really super-awesome. None of them are terrible either I reckon. Really wish NG here had more customization options, it would pretty much win by default. hahaha. Oh well, I'll keep playing & see what I find. Other sites linked below for the curious. Okay, mainly so I can find them again. haha.

I released Furry Fury: Beta on the Beach early this morning. Came together much quicker than I expected. Course it helps that I basically ignored everything to work on that for the last week. Still, very happy to have it up & posted so quickly. :) I consider it to be kind of an open beta, which is to say my main goal with this game is to test it with a large group of people & see how it plays. So, please, get over there & leave me some comments. ;)

Thanks!

Hey again everyone. Just wanted to make a quick post to let you all know that I'm back to coding again. I'm working on the sequel to K. Fox, and I'm trying to perfect the 'game engine' so that there's less lag & better hit detection.

In order to test this new game engine, I plan to release a mini-game very soon. It'll be a Sunday afternoon release, so keep your eyes open. Probably not next weekend, but before December for sure.

So I finally released my new game yesterday. Man am I glad to have that done. Don't get me wrong, it was fun drawing all this, but it took WAY longer than I intended. I started out drawing tracks, and that turned out to be a lot of fun... so I made a lot of them. Then I had to go & make cars & girls for each track... those take a lot more time to draw. And somewhere along the way I realized that I was drawing a lot more than I had originally planned. That's great as an art project, but not so much for great game. Hence the name, BTW.

But anyway, I'm still really glad I did all this, and I hope y'all enjoy it. I learned a metric ton about drawing... mainly by doing it wrong over & over, but eventually I picked up a trick or two. Probably hard to see in the game, as it's not really organized by when I drew stuff. In general, the art should get slightly better as you progress, so think of that as a bonus. hahaha. What it really did is it got me thinking about how I can repeat art w/o having to re-draw the same scene 1000 times... which is exactly what it felt like sometimes. Especially the hands... they still look wrong to me. hehe.

One thing I find very funny is apparently I have a thing for chics with mullets (not), wearing blue jeans (okay, sure), and the color purple (yeah, that's true). None of that was really planned, but it was what I drew. Maybe it's my subconcious trying to tell me something? hahah

July 1, 2010:
Just thought I'd post another quick annoucement. I just finished the 'core' of my current game. I think it's pretty cool to be here, as for the first time I see an acutal game, as opposed to a big pile of code & doodles. So wanted to share with everyone out there who's been waiting. Both of you. ;) Anyway, there still tons to do, loading screens, intro, music & sound, and cheat codes (trust me, you want cheat codes, this is a long game). So my un-official goal is to have it all posted & up by the end of July. There, you have a release date... sort of. :)

I have to say that learning to draw has been fun, but not so much fun I'd want to do this often. I can reallly see the improvement in my style from my first sketechs to the last ones. I'll be honest, this is not the hottest stuff I've ever seen, but it's not terrible either. Solid B-- high school stuff ;). I can totally see how someone could really get into drawing... I'm just not that guy. hahaha. So, Once this is done, I'll likely be going back to full time coder, and looking for artists to help me with various projects. Maybe I'll try drawing some backgrounds when I feel the itch. harhar.

That's all

So, I haven't written anything in a while, but I keep getting a small but steady stream of "when's the next game???" So let me start by saying I'm taking a small break at the moment, but I still work on it about once a week. I'm hoping to have something done near the end of summer. But, this next project is really more of a tutorial for me - I'm still trying to teach myself how to draw. It's fun, but much like when I was in school, I feel like my brain is full now, & I really just wanna go play. If the game isn't 'done' by the end of summer, I'll at least try to package up what I have & release a beta of some type, just so you can see what I was doing all this time. hehe.

I am also talking to an artist, and we are very excited about trying to make a direct sequel to K. Fox. I'm going to tentatively say we hope to have that done by the end of the year, but realistically we haven't started on it yet. Still, just the sheer amout of brainstorming we've been doing is pretty cool. If it turns out anything like what we're discussing, I think y'all will be impressed.

And lastly, I was surfing NG today, and it looks like Playshapes (the original artist of the Legend of Krystal) is back. I'll put two links below. The first leads to a forum where a small group of folks is working to finish the original, and the second is a direct link to the latest release here on NG.
